Before locking in flights or hotels, decide who will be documenting your memories. Every photography or videography team operates differently, so it is essential to clarify what is included in their overseas package.

When shooting overseas, experience matters immensely. A photographer familiar with Japan will know optimal lighting conditions, crowd control tactics, peak bloom timings, and efficient travel routes—making a massive difference to your final photographs and films.

2. Plan Your Hair & Makeup (Local vs. Travelling MUA)

Another important decision is whether to bring your own Hair & Makeup Artist (MUA) from home or engage a local professional in Japan.

Bringing your own MUA ensures familiarity with your preferred style, but you will also need to cover their travel expenses, accommodation, and daily logistics. For our couples, we often recommend a tailored approach:

• For casual Tokyo lifestyle shoots: We often advise couples to do their own natural makeup. The urban atmosphere is relaxed and authentic, so a lighter, effortless look works beautifully.
• For Mount Fuji gown & suit shoots: We arrange for couples to visit a trusted professional bridal salon in the Fuji area. Because the natural scenery is grand and formal attire is worn, professional hair and makeup complete the cinematic aesthetic without requiring extra travel costs for an accompanying artist.

3. Let Your Crew Guide Location & Seasonal Selection

Not sure where to shoot? That’s completely normal! An experienced destination crew shouldn’t just ask where you want to go; they should actively recommend locations tailored to your visual preferences and the season.

For instance, during a Spring Cherry Blossom shoot in Tokyo, we evaluate:

• Current cherry blossom (Sakura) blooming forecasts
• Real-time crowd levels and quiet hidden spots
• Optimal sun orientation throughout the day
• Distance and travel friction between spots
• Weather contingency and rain backup locations

4. Don’t Overload Your Schedule (Quality Over Quantity)

A common mistake couples make is attempting to cram too many places into a single day. While visiting five different landmarks sounds exciting, hours of commuting, outfit changes, and posing can quickly turn exhausting.

For a standard 7 to 8-hour shoot day, we strongly recommend visiting no more than 3 locations. Selecting spots that are geographically close together ensures less time on the road, more relaxed shooting time, and higher quality imagery.
